Sonata for Cello and Piano, Opus 20
Year: 2015
Duration: ca. 29 minutes
Program Note:
This work is dedicated to Katherine Jenkinson (cellist) and Alison Farr (pianist) who collaborated with Stone Records to make the first commercial recording (24th January 2018) and CD of the piece. The first two movements are played without a break and, in common with the finale, are characterised mainly by rhythm, cross-rhythms, syncopation and movement whereas the third, slow movement is a long-breathed rhapsodic fantasia fusing emotion with elegiac lyricism.
The third movement, extracted from the recording, is available on this site.
