For the first time in my composing career, I hit a writer’s block some months ago which made me decide to put aside my proposed second violin concerto and have a break. After a vacation in UK (May/June 2015) and on returning to the US I felt able to compose again but decided to embark on something altogether different – a sonata for cello and piano. This is proceeding really well and quickly. The first movement is complete and the second is almost finished. I feel two more movements will be appropriate.
Delighted to say I have just completed my first attempt at a string trio, a difficult genre necessitating the discipline of composing without the resources a second violin offers. Feel I have been successful and am very pleased with it.
I’ve now moved on to a second violin concerto, an exciting prospect.
