Piano Quartet (for DSCH), Opus 11

Year: 2009

Orchestration: violin, viola, cello and piano.

Duration: ca. 23 minutes

Program Note:

The early first appearance of the DSCH motif in the first movement was totally subconscious and thereafter a feature of it was made throughout the work’s four movements. It appears often, sometimes in full, sometimes transposed, sometimes truncated and sometimes hidden away in passage work. Befittingly, the second movement is a passacaglia (a form loved by the work’s dedicatee, Shostakovich) and the finale is a set of fugal variations.

The second movement is accessible on this site but for contractual reasons the names of the private CD's performers cannot be released.

The work received its premiere in England on 11th April 2014.
